Reminiscing Brother Runhuan Liu
Brother Xueliang Lin & Sister Yahui Lin Chen
In the Church in Taipei City
“For though you have ten thousand guides in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers.”—1 Cor. 4:15a
Brother Runhuan Liu, whom we addressed him as Uncle Liu by habit. He was indeed our spiritual father in Christ, both a strict father and a kind fatner. In the begining of 1971, he was sent by the ministry to return back to Banqiao to serve the church. I remembered that in the young people’s meeting he was sitting in the back to accompany us. Therefore, he soon blended with us. We all exceedingly liked him, loved him, and feared him. He led us, a group of young people(mainly college students or newly graduated working saints ) to meet and serve together. Besides leading young people, he also took lead in the service of the whole church to pursue the the lessons related to life and lead the Scripture reading and supply the word, and teach us to know the truth of the Bible.
“You are our letter, inscribed in our hearts.”—2 Cor. 3:2a
“Since you are being manifested that you are a letter of Christ ministered by us, inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God.”—2 Cor. 3:3a
I remembered these years when uncle Liu returned to Banqiao to serve us until he was taken by the Lord. Because of the transfer of uncle Liu’s service, or due to our moving away or going abroad, I could not meet and serve with Brother Liu. We met less and separated more. However, we were those who had been in his heart and who he missed and treasured. Every meeting with him was an opprotunity for us to enjoy his love in Christ and timely admonitions and exhortations once again.
The service that uncle Liu had given to us was truly his person; it was the Spirit of the living God who was written on our hearts by him that we might receive perfecting in every way. And what he had wrought into us was what God had wrought into us through him that we might become the duplication of Christ and the reprint of the Spirit. We were very grateful to the Lord for giving us such a New Teatament minister to serve us. What God had granted to us by his service, even now,we still enjoyed its effectiveness. We believed that we would continue to enjoy what he had ministered to us until the time when the Lord took us. I indeed treasured such a minister.
“…Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”—John 12:24b
Now Uncle Liu had taken off his tabernacle on earth to leave us to be with the Lord. We hoped and also petitioned exceedingly that the seed that the Lord had sowed into us by him, after his departure, could bring forth many grains within us in the coming days that the glory may be to Lord Jesus and God the Father. When the Lord came back, we would rejoice to gather before Him once again. And we would also become his joy, glory, and crown! (1 Thes. 2:19-20)
